Liza Truax

Liza Truax is a skilled operator, investor, and leader who is passionate about helping small businesses overcome challenges and drive economic development in their communities. Liza studied economics at Cornell University where she graduated as a Merrill Presidential Scholar, and she holds an MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School.

For the last 5 years, Liza has worked as a close advisor to entrepreneurs and owners of institutionally sized family businesses and family offices, with the goal of maximizing outcomes across their operating companies, family offices, foundations, and communities. She has advised the principal of a preeminent European family office on a portfolio and leadership transition, was acting COO of a family-owned enterprise technology business that supported the operations of nearly 1,000 asset managers and $18 trillion in assets, and designed giving strategies for a philanthropist that signed the Giving Pledge.

During that time, she was also the Managing Partner at Wingspan Legacy Partners, an advisory business dedicated to family businesses that was founded by a Harvard Business School faculty member. She oversaw building the team to 15 people and was responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations in addition to managing key family office relationships. The firm prides itself on its academic heritage and the collective economic and philanthropic impact of its client base.

She spent the early part of her career at AQR Capital Management, where she was an early member of the team that pioneered the liquid alternatives investment category. Liza has previously been a management consultant at Bain & Co. and an equity capital markets analyst at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

When she’s not working, Liza competes as an endurance athlete completing myriad half marathons, marathons, and triathlons. In addition, she is looking to add her 45th passport stamp soon. Liza is also an advisory board member to Good Sports, a national nonprofit aimed at helping kids excel on the field and in life.
